Our Journey

The Journey of Turnstroke all kicked off in early March 2023 where John decided to take his prior years of education and swimming knowledge and combine it to make a difference to his local community

Before this time John had been teaching at a local swim school for over 5 years building up his qualifications and experience in the water. Even now he continues to finish his Bachelor of Education hoping to support apsiring students in all aspects of life giving them help and support whenever possible.

In his earlier years John had taken part in various water sports including swimming and playing waterpolo at a national level. This love for water mixed with his love for education created the perfect storm and thats where Turnstroke was born.

Initially starting off in public pools or home pools one-to-one John eventually ventured the business out of its comfort zone to Macleans primary school in hopes to reach even more kids and help them learn to swim. Today the Turnstroke business is dedicated to helping as many kids and adults alike to learn how to swim.

Why Turnstroke Swim School?

Its no suprise the difficulty of choosing a swim school. The stakes are high and you want to be getting your value from every lesson.

At Turnstroke we don't do traditional swimming lessons. In fact we try to stray away from any method that is in place just 'because'

Smaller Classes

At Turnstroke we don't allow our basic classes any bigger than 3 students to a single teacher. This ensures all students are safer and receive the maximum amount of support during their lesson.

Water Safety Integration

Rather than focusing purely on swimming. We believe a good foundation for water survival is the key to a lifelong swimmer. Versus only focusing on technique and lap swimming. Water survival challenges students with a new aspect of in-water learning.

Modern Class Flow

After taking inspiration from new open space classrooms. Our lessons offer a dynamic flow of class where students are given more support in areas of focus through students switching between teachers during their lesson.
